All Volusia County School students receive support within MTSS, a Multi-Tiered System of Supports. These supports address the whole student and cover any academic, behavioral, or social emotional needs. Data-based problem solving is used to identify needed supports for large groups (Tier 1), small groups (Tier 2), and individual students (Tier 3). By using consistent data monitoring and analysis as part of a problem-solving process, students receive differentiated instruction and interventions to achieve proficiency with grade level content or make progress toward closing the achievement gap. The data used for problem solving come from a variety of sources including district and state assessments, attendance logs, discipline referrals, diagnostic assessments and social/emotional progress monitoring. If a student is struggling and not making progress when compared to his same age peers, an Individual Problem-Solving Team meeting should be initiated to determine whether additional supports or an evaluation is needed to help identify a potential disability. As a part of the continuum of services for our students, we encourage a positive approach with behavioral expectations using PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports). The purpose of schoolwide PBIS is to establish a climate in which appropriate behavior is the norm using common language and consistency across all areas of the school.

As a part of PBIS at Volusia Pines, we use schoolwide expectations as represented with our Panther PRIDE.

Schoolwide Expectations

Individual students, as well as entire classes, can earn Panther Bucks by showing their P.R.I.D.E. across all areas of the campus. Classes then collect and save their Panther Bucks to turn them in for incentives chosen by their class.
